Highlander Hotel, Newtonmore
The Highlander Hotel is located in the village of Newtonmore in the heart of the Cairngorm National Park and offers friendly service and quality food. The hotel consists of 2 main areas, the public area which has a reception, comfortable lounge, bar and restaurant and the second area where the 85 en suite bedrooms are located. Although the hotel does not have a lift, all of the public areas and many of the bedrooms are on the ground floor. Regular entertainment.
Day 1
A morning departure as we head north via Carlisle, Stirling and Perth to our hotel, The Highlander at Newtonmore. Dinner in the hotel.
DDay 2
After breakfast we make the short trip to the Highland Folk Museum, an open air museum reflecting on life in Scotland from the 1700s up to the mid-1900s. Enjoy free time in Aviemore before a journey on the Strathspey Railway. Based in the heart of the Highland's this premier heritage railwa y welcomes you aboard vintage carriages hauled by a lovingly restored locomotive whilst admiring the rugged scenery. Dinner at the hotel.
B, DDay 3
After breakfast we head to Dingwall and join the Scotrail Kyle Line train for a journey to the Kyle of Lochalsh, described by Michael Palin as 'one of the most beautiful rail journeys in the world'. Our coach will meet us at Kyle, on our return to Newtonmore we have time for a photo opportunity at Eilean Donan Castle. Dinner in the hotel.
B, DDay 4
Today we head via Loch Laggan and Spean Bridge to Fort William. Here we join the famous Jacobite steam train for the journey to Mallaig, one of Europe's most popular rail journeys with beautiful views of lochs and mountains, cross the renowned Glenfinnan Viaduct before arriving in the fishing port of Mallaig, time at leisure for lunch before joining our coach for the journey to Fort William by the" road to the Isles", a complete contrast to the train journey. Dinner on our return to Newtonmore.
Day 5
We leave our hosts at the Highlander hotel for the return journey home.
