Best Western Plus Craiglands
Hotel Located within walking distance from the traditional Yorkshire town of Ilkley, this Victorian hotel is decorated in a modern but traditional style. All 63 bedrooms are equipped with a TV, hairdryer and tea/coffee making facilities. Enjoy a drink in the Antler Bar & Lounge or the outside terrace, all offering plenty of seating. There is a lift to the second floor, however, due to the age of the building there are stairs to access some bedrooms.
Day 1
A morning departure as we head to the Spa town of Harrogate, time for lunch in one of the many cafes or restaurants and perhaps some retail therapy in Harrogate's array of independent shops before we continue our journey to Ilkley and the Craiglands Hotel. Dinner in the hotel.
Day 2
Our first visit is to Grassington, the beating heart of the Yorkshire Dales, the bustling cobbled market square was also used as the fictional market town Darrowby in TV's All Creatures Great & Small. Our next stop is delightful Skipton. We embark on a leisurely 3-hour return canal cruise along the beautiful Leeds Liverpool Canal, complete with commentary and ploughman's lunch on board. Dinner at the Craiglands hotel tonight.
Day 3
This morning, we travel to Leeming Bar to board the Wensleydale Railway, known as the Herriot Country line, for a scenic journey to Leyburn, we then head into the vibrant market town of Thirsk for lunch. No visit to Thirsk is complete without experiencing the World of James Herriot, the town's most celebrated attraction. Step into the authentic home and veterinary practice of Alf Wight OBE (known worldwide by his pen name James Herriot), where the beloved stories of "All Creatures Great and Small" were born. We return to Ilkley & the Craiglands hotel for dinner.
Day 4
This morning, we embark on a circular scenic drive. Our first stop is pretty Hebden Bridge in the Upper Calder Valley, a filming location for the popular Happy Valley TV series. Here we have the chance to explore. We next travel to Keighley via picturesque Haworth, home of the famous Brontë sisters, and an undisputed literary mecca. In the afternoon, we enjoy a one-way journey through Brontë country on the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway. Final dinner at the hotel.
