Tick off several of Irelands historic hotspots on this new tour for 2021, beginning with a drive through the splendid Wicklow Mountains. Marvel at some fabulous castles and other ancient buildings, lust over silverware and get to grips with cider making while we brush up on our Irish history.
Tulfarris Hotel & Golf Resort, Blessington Lakes
The 4-star Tulfarris Hotel is situated in one of the most picturesque settings in Wicklow, overlooking the breathtaking and tranquil Blessington Lake. Enjoy delicious food and relaxed bars. All 60 deluxe bedrooms contain hairdryer, TV, safe and tea/coffee making facilities. The hotel has a lift.
Hotel Minella, Clonmel
With 10 acres of gardens, the family owned Hotel Minella occupies a scenic spot beside the River Suir. You feel like you are entering into a touch of grandeur; a former private home and now operating as a hotel, rooms are equipped with a TV, hairdryer and tea/coffee making facilities Lift Bar Restaurant Leisure facilities include an indoor pool, Jacuzzi, sauna, steam room, outdoor hot tub and tennis court.
Ballymascanlon House Hotel, Dundalk
Located half way between Dublin and Belfast, this 4-star family owned hotel is run with pride and dedication. The impressive Victorian house forms the heart of the hotel which is located on the 140-acre Ballymascanlon estate. All 90 spacious bedrooms are very comfortable and kept to a high standard. Day 1
Depart the local area and travel to Holyhead for our afternoon ferry crossing to Dublin. We continue our journey to the Tulfarris Hotel & Golf Resort for our evening meal and overnight stay (overnight bag recommended).
DDay 2
Today, we travel through Wicklow Mountains National Park, the largest of Ireland’s six National Parks and one of the country’s most untouched regions. We pass through the spectacular valley of Glendalough, famed for its picturesque scenery and rich history, as we make our way to the Hotel Minella in Clonmel, our base for the next 3 night’s.
B, DDay 3
We begin our day at Kilkenny Castle, which dominates this historical small city. We wander through period rooms and set foot in 50 acres of rolling parkland. We then delve into a treasure trove of artefacts with a guided tour of Medieval Mile Museum. We finish the day with some free time to explore charming Kilkenny.
B, DDay 4
This morning, we visit the historic site, Rock of Cashel, a collection of medieval buildings standing atop an imposing hill with limestone outcrops. We then fast forward to the 19th century with a guided tour of Swiss Cottage. For our last stop today, we enjoy a guided tour of Fethard Horse Country Experience.
B, DDay 5
Today we have a morning visit to Slane Castle and its impressive buildings, where we have a guided tour. We then make our way to Ballymascanlon House Hotel in Dundalk, our base for the next 2 night’s.
B, DDay 6
We spend today getting to grips with the cider making process at Armagh Cider Company. A guided tour brings to life the journey from blossom to bottle, with a peek at the orchards and where the cider and apple juices are made. To celebrate the humble apple, we tuck into apple tarts washed down with tea and coffee, before finishing the day with a walking tour in the coastal town of Carlingford.
B, DDay 7
After breakfast at the hotel we begin our return journey home.
